Six Ways to Bond with Your Pup
Do you have a new pup, or a pup at home that you’d like to get closer to? Bonding with your pup is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a pet parent!
To help you and your pup get closer, here are 6 tips and tricks you can use to bond with them!
1. One-on-One Time
Normally, dogs are pack animals and they have differing levels of admiration for everyone in their pack. As a result, taking time out of your schedule to spend time with your pup is essential if you’d like to establish a stronger bond.
Before giving your pup a treat, or letting them play with one of their favorite toys, have them perform a trick. This way, they’ll learn to look and listen to you before being rewarded and they’ll learn to associate some of their favorite things with you.
3. Be Interactive
When you see your pup running around the backyard, run around with them! Make a conscious effort to involve yourself in the everyday aspects of their lives. Play around on the floor with them, and play fetch with them! Don’t be afraid to look silly and be a little rambunctious!
4. Prepare Their Food with Love
Make an effort to prepare each one of your pup’s meals with ingredients that they love.
Prepare their meals in front of them so they know that you’re the one who’s making their favorite foods. Be sure to cater to their specific tastes and food preferences, while also making sure that their nutritional needs are being met.
5. Training
Your pup gains much of their happiness from making you happy. If you praise them for following a command you’ve taught them, they will see that they’re making you happy which will make them happy. Continuing dog training past the basic level strengthens the bond you two already have.
6. Meaningful Walks
Walking your pup is an intimate experience. To make your walks even more special, try to change things up every once in a while. Take a walk in nature, or go to a dog park! They will recognize the effort, and will be excited to be going on an adventure with you.
