A Cruelty-Free Life: Household Products

To embark on the journey to a cruelty-free life, you must make decisions on a lot of key aspects. When it comes to the food you eat, you’ll decide whether you want to be vegetarian, vegan, or neither. When it comes to the products you choose to use…well, most people tend to be more in the dark. However, we don’t have to be. By acknowledging products that are cruelty-free, you are one step closer to a cruelty-free life!

First, here is one HUGE tip for picking household products: do not trust the label! When we think of cruelty-free, we believe that means no animals were harmed in the making. According to the FDA, companies are allowed to be “kind in their labeling or advertising.” That small detail allows for a variety of products to sneak into this label. Some of the products within a product could have been tested on animals and still be labeled as cruelty-free. If you are looking for a product never tested on animals, make sure to do your research before purchasing. Here are just a few brands that are truly cruelty-free.

1. Method

With a whole collection of household cleaners, the options are endless. I have never found a Method product that does not work well. Method offers everything from bathroom cleaners to foaming body wash!

2. Mrs. Meyer’s

Similar to Method products, Mrs. Meyer’s creates plenty of options for different cleaners. The online site includes bundle packages of the most popular items. Their scents include comforting herbs such as rosemary, lavender, and many more. To top it all off, Mrs. Meyer’s maintains an affordable price for all!

3. Seventh Generation

Sponsored by one of my favorite actresses, Maya Rudolph, Seventh Generation advertises their plant-based clean. All of their products, including free & clear laundry detergent left synthetic fragrances and dyes for their competition. By only using plants, we can be guaranteed a natural and cruelty-free clean.

While this a very short list of products that are cruelty-free, the options are endless. If you are looking for more, check out PETA for lists of products that do not test on animals!
