Best Doggy Destinations: Washington D.C.
Welcome to Best Doggy Destinations! This week we’re featuring Washington D.C., where you can explore the capitol’s historic landmarks, beautiful gardens, and restaurants that make sure you and your dog are satisfied!
The National Mall is an iconic part of Washington D.C. with a handful of landmarks to check out like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and FDR Memorial.
Not all of the monuments allow dogs up close, but feel free you take your dog sightseeing on this two-mile stretch of historic attractions. Just make sure they’re on a leash!
Like the National Mall, the Arboretum is a great place to go on walks and sightsee with your dog. As long as they’re on a leash, you can enjoy the gardens, pathways and ponds that this 446-acre attraction has to offer.
3. Art & Soul
Art & Soul is a Southern-inspired restaurant with traditional food like fried chicken, mashed potatoes and grits. The best part? They not only allow dogs, they cater to them!
Art & Soul’s Pooch Patio Menu offers drinks, appetizers and entrees. Dogs pick between granola, cakes or biscuits for the appetizer. For the main entrée they can either have steak, beef tips or frozen raw bones. Then they can wash it all down with vitamin water or Bowser Beer (non-alcoholic ale).
4. Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens
Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is right across from National Arboretum. More of a marsh than a park, this place is a bit smaller and not as crowded, with beautiful plants like lotus flowers and water lilies.
If you’re up for a garden that’s quieter and offers different plants and wildlife, Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is definitely worth trying.
Popular trails that you and your dog should also try include Rock Creek Park and Capital Crescent Trail.
5. Metro Mutts
After all the walking and exploring, treat your dog to Metro Mutts! They’re a neighborhood pet supply store with high quality treats, accessories and training classes.
Open since 2010, Metro Mutts are known for their passionate employees and healthy eating options.
Check out this healthy frozen yogurt treat they sell for dogs!
