Thinking about adopting a reptile? Even if you’re not, maybe you should consider it! Reptiles are great for teaching kids and first time pet-owners the basics of taking care of animals.

Here are the top ten reasons why you should adopt a reptile.

1. There are many different kinds.

Maybe you want a reptile with crazy colors like the False Tomato Frog or one that can camouflage like the Yemen Chameleon. There are so many options to choose from that it’s hard to settle on just one.

2. Each one is unique.

Every reptile has his or her own little quirk, ability or fun fact. Some have really cool patterns on their bodies, others are nocturnal, and there are even some that can reproduce all on their own!

3. You learn interesting facts.

Owning a reptile means learning some facts about their living conditions, behavior, etc. These facts can make for interesting conversation starters.

Did you know that turtles are able to live for more than a century? The opportunity to watch your pet grow is a rewarding experience.

As a former owner of three turtles, I can say that the experience taught me the basics of owning a pet, such as feeding times and tank cleaning schedules.

You don’t need to worry about them getting intro trouble while you’re away. They’ll be safe and sound in their tanks waiting for you to come home!
