Best Doggy Destinations: Chicago

dog friendly places Chicago

Welcome to Best Doggy Destinations! Every week we feature a city with some great dog-friendly places. This week, we’re featuring the Windy City, Chicago!

From cruises to obstacle courses, this city has some creative attractions for you and your dog to enjoy.

1. For Dog’s Sake

Like the name suggests, this place is all about dogs. More importantly, this place is all about dogs’ health. For Dog’s Sake sells natural, nutritious food along with supplements, toys, and grooming services.

Veterinarians and trainers have recommended the store’s items and services, so you should definitely check this place out if you’re in the area.

Also try Tails in the City, another store that’s all about dogs. While not all about health, this store sells clothes, beds, gourmet treats, and much more for your dog to enjoy.

Who says cruises are only for people? Take your dog along with you on this river and lake cruise as you learn some fun facts about Chicago. Your dog can sit with you on your lap, on its own seat, or on the deck. The cruise has outdoor seating, as well as a shared doggy restroom and water bowls.

The cruise is available in the summer on Saturdays and Sundays, so you have time to plan out a fun summer trip with your dog!

Dogs ride for $8, while adults are $31, kids under 12 are $11, and children under 3 ride for free.

3. The Navy Pier

The Navy Pier offers a lot of shops and attractions for you and your family. While your dog can’t come inside the shops with you, it’s free you accompany you outdoors and outside the food court as long as its on a leash. With an amazing view of the water, this place is great for a nice walk with your dog.

Navy Pier also has another cruise that your dog can join you on!

Montrose Beach doesn’t allow dogs, but Montrose Dog Beach does. Located at the north end of Montrose Beach, dogs are free to go in the water and run on the sand. Just make sure you have the required permit and $5 for the tag fee.

Even though it’s a little crowded at times, it’s a great place for you and your dog to meet other dogs and dog owners.

Check out Belmont Harbor Beach, which is a little bit smaller than Montrose Dog Beach but is still dog friendly!

5. Jackson Bark

Jackson Bark is more than just a park, in fact, it doesn’t even have park in the name! Jackson Bark is an agility course that offers toys and obstacle courses for your dog to try.

With tires to jump through, tunnels to run across, and even a seesaw, this place is ideal for getting your dog healthy and active.

If you’re looking for a more traditional park, look no further than Chopin Dog Park, which is a nice, open park with an off-leash area.
